The release of Xpress-MP 2008A is significant for organizations that depend upon advanced decision management systems, particularly as questions arise about the fate of rival product CPLEX amid maker ILOG's recent acquisition.
Optimization refers to a mathematical technique used to calculate the best possible resource utilization to achieve a desired result such as maximizing ROI or service levels or minimizing costs or transit time. It is increasingly applied to such processes as logistics, operations and asset management, and is a key component of Fair Isaac's vision for Decision Management. New optimization solvers in Xpress-MP 2008A include: a Quadratically Constrained Quadratic Programming solver, which can be used to solve portfolio optimization problems, problems in statistics, and transport or facility location problems involving quadratic distance measures; and a Convex Nonlinear Programming solver which can be used to solve certain nonlinear problems in engineering and chemistry. Xpress-MP 2008A also includes a range of features to give users more decision-making information, assure consistency of results and fine-tune the Xpress-MP solution to their specific needs.
"Amid industry consolidation, optimization is rapidly becoming a distinguishing 'must-have' capability for decision management," said Andrew Jennings, chief research officer, Fair Isaac. "The release of Xpress-MP 2008A underscores Fair Isaac's commitment to delivering comprehensive solutions that help organizations make optimal strategic, resource allocation and investment decisions."
A free evaluation copy of Xpress-MP 2008A is available on the company website at http://www.fairisaac.com/evaluatexpressMP.About Xpress-MPXpress-MP is a suite of mathematical modeling and optimization tools used to solve linear, integer, quadratic, non-linear and stochastic programming problems. Xpress-MP solves large-scale optimization problems and enables better business decisions and resulting financial benefits in areas such as supply chain management, operations, logistics, and asset management. Xpress-MP 2008A is the first optimization release since Fair Isaac added Xpress-MP to its product line through the acquisition of Dash Optimization in January.
