Deploying FICO Xpress Insight on Public Cloud Infrastructure

Xpress Insight supports two deployment models: standalone on premises and as a FICO hosted and managed SaaS.
The on premises software can be deployed on a public cloud such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform with the following considerations:
  1. FICO will provide support for the on premises product software. The following elements of the cloud environment are not covered by the FICO support service:
    • 3rd party cloud infrastructure and services.
    • Configuration of cloud resources including virtual servers, file shares, network routing.
    • Overall security of the cloud environment.
    • Anything listed below as not-supported functionality.
  2. Access to Xpress Insight should be secured by appropriate virtual network services such as Amazon VPC, Azure VNet. Xpress Insight should not be directly exposed to the public internet.
  3. Active Directory/LDAP integration should be enabled for authentication and authorization. Local account authentication should be disabled.
  4. The guidance in section Securing FICO Xpress Insight of the Xpress Insight Installation Guide should be applied.
  5. The PostgreSQL database software that is provided with the Xpress Insight software must be used. Integration with public cloud database services is not supported.
  6. The user is responsible for implementing a database backup process. A scheduled task should use the PostgreSQL tools to dump the insightdb database and archive it under an appropriate rotation policy. For more information on the PostgreSQL tools please see the section Using the PostgreSQL Database Tools in the Xpress Insight Administrator Guide.
  7. Active-Active disaster recovery is not supported. Options for disaster recovery are:
    • Snapshot the fully configured state of the primary, deploy on failover and restore from database backup.
    • Deploy a secondary (cold standby) to start up on failover and restore from database backup.
In both cases consideration needs to be given to how connections between failed over elements of the solution will change. For example, IP addresses to server, Tableau, workers. Each cloud vendor will provide solutions to these issues such as elastic IPs.

For more information on Tableau disaster recovery, see https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/enterprise-it/stability.

FICO recommends regular failover and failback testing.

  8. The Xpress Insight server log can be monitored for failure events. For more information on the codes to filter for, please contact FICO Support.
  9. Xpress Insight implements a health check endpoint. This endpoint can be used to monitor the health of the system and decide to restart the server in the event that the system is unhealthy. For more information, please contact FICO Support.
  10. The following features of the Xpress Insight software on the FICO Analytic Cloud are not supported by the on-premises version:
    • Integration with Single Sign On (SSO) technologies.
    • Elastic scaling of Xpress Insight Server or workers.
    • Application performance monitoring integration.
    • Solution database.
    • S3 service integration.
    • PCI-DSS compliance.
