LDAP and Tableau

Xpress Insight will assume that Tableau has been installed with Active Directory integration configured if the following conditions occur:
  • Xpress Insight is integrated with Tableau.
  • Xpress Insight manages users within Tableau.
  • LDAP integration is enabled in Xpress Insight.

Within Xpress Insight the Tableau system user must be a valid user in LDAP and map to a licensed user in Tableau that has administration rights.

The Xpress Insight admin user account is a built in local account that always authenticates with Xpress Insight allowing access to Xpress Insight even if LDAP is not available. Xpress Insight local accounts cannot be used in conjunction with Tableau. Xpress Insight local accounts can be disabled via the LDAP within the Xpress Insight Web Admin client.

When in Full LDAP mode you can configure a Tableau LDAP group that determines access to Tableau.

When a user is a member of the Tableau group then:

  • a new Insight User will have a Tableau account created, if there are sufficient licences available.
  • an existing Tableau user is updated with the rights granted by their Insight permissions
