Installing the FICO Xpress Insight Server

The installer will install Xpress Insight Server and repository before the Execution Worker.

Xpress Insight Server uses PostgreSQL as its database. You must install the appropriate version of PostgreSQL to match your Xpress Insight Server installation. Xpress Insight 4.56 requires PostgreSQL 11.10.

You must follow the upgrade path using the correct upgrade scripts to maintain the integrity of your database.
  • If you have an installation of Xpress Insight Server earlier than 4.7.2, you will have PostgreSQL 9.1 installed. You must upgrade to PostgreSQL 9.5 before you can upgrade to PostgreSQL 11.10. To do this, run the Xpress Insight 4.53 installer which will migrate your data to 9.5. You can then uninstall Xpress Insight 4.53 and follow the process below to install the latest version of Insight.
  • Starting with Xpress Insight Server 4.7.2, the supported database has changed to PostgreSQL 9.5. This version or PostgreSQL was used until Xpress Insight Server 4.53.4. You must upgrade to PostgreSQL 11.10 to install Xpress Insight Server 4.56.

Migration scripts are included with the Xpress Insight Server installer.

  1. Double click the downloaded installer file and in the resulting WinZip Self-Extractor window, click Setup.
  2. To install the Xpress Insight Server and repository, make sure the Server and database feature is selected as shown in the following example. Select Run Server as Windows Service to enable the Xpress Insight Server to start with Windows.
  3. It is possible for all components of an Xpress Insight installation to run on the same machine. However, deploying the Insight Server, Tableau Server, and one or more execution workers on separate machines is a more likely production configuration. If you plan to install the execution worker on a separate machine, deselect the Execution Worker feature, and run the installer again on the separate machine, selecting just the Execution Worker option, for more see Installing the Xpress Insight Execution Worker on Windows. Otherwise select both the Server and database and the Execution Worker features.
    If Xpress Insight Server cannot locate a suitable license on the host machine, which would provide full access to all the available features, Insight will revert to Community Licence mode—this is evidenced by the Community Licence banner on the Insight landing page. This mode disables remote server access and access to the admin pages.
  4. Click Next to continue.
  5. If a compatible Java installation cannot be found, you will be presented with a message stating that either Java cannot be found or there is a version mismatch. If you get this message, click OK and the installer will ask you to locate your Java installation. Select the bin subfolder from the Java installation.
  6. Click Install.

    The system displays a message stating either Java cannot be found, or you have the wrong version installed. Click OK. The subsequent dialog prompts you to locate your Java installation. Navigate to the Java bin sub-folder and select it.

    If the installer detects an existing database, you will be asked whether this database should be retained and upgraded.

    Important In this case, you will be asked if you want to back up your data before the upgrade. This is recommended in general (unless you have already taken steps to ensure the safety of your data through other means), but in the particular case that you are upgrading from a version of Xpress Insight older than 4.7.2, it is strongly recommended that you back up your data because at this point, the database format changed and the migration between versions is more complex than normal.
    A progress page is displayed. During the installation, a command window is also displayed to show the PostgreSQL database installation.
  7. Click Yes to add Xpress Insight to the Start menu.
  8. Select Program Folder where you want the links placed.
  9. Click Finish to complete the installation.
  10. After the installation you may see the following dialog. Click the appropriate response.
