Editing Existing Tableau Workbooks
When developing a workbook the database host, port, schema name, username, and password that Tableau Desktop will use to connect to the Mirror database for the app must be supplied. These values, excluding the password, are then stored by Tableau Desktop within the workbook. Xpress Insight dynamically creates a Mirror database for each app. Therefore, the database connection values stored in the workbook itself are only applicable for the system the workbook was last authored against. An Insight system automatically overwrites these values when the app is deployed. Tableau Desktop cannot do this. If you wish to author an existing workbook that was not developed against your Insight development server then you will need to supply new connection values to Tableau Desktop.
A simple method to validate if a workbook has the correct credentials already for the Insight system is to compare the username Tableau Desktop is asking you to authenticate for, with the username that from the Mirror Database dialog (available from the cogs menu on the App page) for the app in Insight.
To resolve a mismatch, click on the Edit connection link on the dialog in Tableau Desktop. This displays the following dialog where you can change the database information to the information obtained from the Insight Mirror Database dialog for the app.
