App release process on FICO® Platform

FICO® Xpress Insight is deployed on the FICO Platform as a component.
A FICO Platform component moves through 3 lifecycle stages:
  1. Design (also referred to as Develop and Root)
  2. Staging
  3. Production

Each lifecycle stage is an independent copy of the Xpress Insight software with its own copies of your developed apps and its own repository of scenarios and folders. You can apply app implementation changes only in the Design stage; these changes (but not app state, such as scenarios and folders) are promoted to Staging and Production using the same component lifecycle process that is used to promote Xpress Insight version updates.

The content in the Design lifecycle stage is submitted to the Staging stage, where it must be approved before it is deployed to the Production stage. When an app is promoted to the next lifecycle stage, only the app implementation is promoted; no data is moved.
Note: The Staging and Production lifecycle stages do not exist until the first time a component is promoted to them.
Promoting an app to production consists of the following steps:
  1. Using Xpress Workbench, publish the new version of the app to the Design lifecycle stage of the Xpress Insight component.
  2. From the FICO Platform UI on the Components page, find the Xpress Insight component in the list of solution components. Click the drop-down menu and select Publish > Submit. The app is promoted to Staging.
  3. Before an app can be promoted from Staging to Production, the promotion must be approved. To approve the promotion, click the drop-down menu for the Xpress Insight component, and then select Publish > Approve.
  4. After the promotion has been approved, the changes can be deployed to the Production lifecycle stage. To deploy to Production, click the drop-down menu on the Xpress Insight component, and then select Publish > Deploy.
Note: When you promote an app, it replaces any existing app with the same app name and model name that is already in the higher lifecycle stage. If no matching app exists, a new copy of the promoted app is deployed.

After you promote an app, check the component logs for any warnings or errors encountered during the process.

The shared promotion process for Xpress Insight software and app implementations has several implications to be aware of:
  • Promoting anXpress Insight software patch promotes any pending app updates.
  • All apps are promoted at the same time.

User roles in the component lifecycle

Different FICO Platform user roles have different permissions for the component lifecycle process. The relevant roles are as follows:
Administrator
Administrators can publish to Staging, approve, and deploy promotions to Production.
Owner
Owners are implicit administrators.
Configurer
Configurers can promote from Design to Staging.
Approver
Approvers can approve a promotion from Staging to Production.
Deployer
Deployers can deploy an approved promotion from Staging to Production.
