Configuring Tableau for Xpress Insight
![]() |
Note: If you are using a shared Tableau server, use a dedicated Tableau site for
Xpress Insight to ensure a clear separation between
Xpress Insight and any other applications or users that access the Tableau server.
|
The integration between Xpress Insight and Tableau relies on the Trusted Authentication feature of Tableau to avoid Insight users having to explicitly authenticate into Tableau to see an embedded Tableau visualization.
You must configure Tableau Server before you configure Xpress Insight. There are two ways you can configure Tableau: a command-line method (supported on Windows and Linux) and a FICO installer (Windows only).
Configuring Tableau using the command line
To configure Tableau using the Windows or Linux command line, follow these steps:
- Log on to the server where Tableau Server is installed.
- Run the following commands:
where:tsm login -u <local-user> -p <local-user-password> tsm stop tsm configuration set -k wgserver.trusted_hosts -v "127.0.0.1,<insight-server-ip>" tsm configuration set -k api.server.enabled -v true tsm configuration set -k vizqlserver.protect_sessions -v false tsm pending-changes apply tsm start
<local-user>
and<local-user-password>
are the credentials for the user account that was used to install Tableau Server.<insight-server-ip>
is the IPv4 address of the server running the Xpress Insight server.
Configuring Tableau using the FICO installer
To configure Tableau on Windows using the FICO installer, follow these steps:
- Copy or download the Tableau configuration for Xpress Insight.exe installer to the Windows machine running Tableau Server. (Make sure you are logged in using an account with full administrator privileges.)
- Run Tableau configuration for Xpress Insight.exe. Click Next.
- Select a destination folder. Click Next.
Tableau can take several minutes to install.
- When prompted, select whether Tableau should be installed on the same machine as Xpress Insight or on a different machine. For more on distributed Tableau servers, see the Tableau Server documentation.
- When configuration is complete, click Finish to close the installer.
