New Functionality and Changes Introduced since Decision Optimizer 8.3

This section describes the new features and changes introduced with Decision Optimizer 8.3, which continues to focus on ease of use, automation, and innovation.

There are enhancements with the Decision Tree Editor and Decision Table Editor, and improved support of Special Values and usability on Reports.

Added in Decision Optimizer 8.3.5

This section describes the changes introduced with Decision Optimizer 8.3.5.

This release is a maintenance release, users already on DO 8.3.x do not need to upgrade to Xpress (8.11) or Xpress Insight (4.55).

Defect Remediation

Internally discovered defects have been fixed, including:
  • Action Swap set report—issue in viewing the Tableau report in some environments.

Added in Decision Optimizer 8.3.4

This section describes the changes introduced with Decision Optimizer 8.3.4.

This release is a maintenance release, with resolution of a few defects and improved documentation.

Users already on DO 8.3.x do not need to upgrade to Xpress (8.11) or Xpress Insight (4.55).

Defect Remediation

Several user reported and internally discovered defects have been fixed, including:
  • Efficient Frontier report—Issue in the way soft constraints for summary calculations are handled during exploration.
  • Tree Aware Optimization—Issue with importing fsml trees that have CategoricalKey.
  • Tree Aware Optimization—Tree template unable to update segment set when using binning with many decimal places.

Documentation

Improvements have been made in sections of the Analyst User Guide covering:
  • Provide list of individual special values SV01-SV99 along with corresponding numeric constants.
  • Added clarification on the support and limitations of configuring string type actions.

Added in Decision Optimizer 8.3.3

This section describes the changes introduced with Decision Optimizer 8.3.3 (along with 8.3.1 and 8.3.2).

This release is a maintenance release, with a few enhancements and resolution of some defects.

For users already on DO 8.3.x, there is no need to upgrade Xpress (8.11) or Xpress Insight (4.55), with the caveat that if you want the incremental Decision Table Editor enhancements, you will need to upgrade Xpress Insight to 4.56.

Performance improvement
  • Decision Impact Model Execution
    • Improvements in the decomposition of execution steps have reduced peak memory usage, which in turn has reduced scenario run times.
  • Tree Aware Optimization
    • Improvements in the logic used to generate consistency constraints for some tree template over base trees have drastically reduced scenario run times.
  • General Optimization
    • Ability to use the Xpress Optimizer concurrent solvers, leveraging as many threads as allowed by the Xpress Insight Execution Service.
  • Display execution time
    • Added the execution time for each component in the run log
  • Decision Table Editors (these additional features are only available, if upgrading to Xpress Insight 4.56)
    • Ability to plot a simple string column as an un-scaled x axis
    • Ability to drag a point to change the curvature of the whole line
    • Ability to straighten a line
    • Ability to smooth a line
    • Precision rounding, when manipulating data point(s)
  • Authority Roles / Project Access (Beta)
    • To enable better project control/access, users have the ability to use/define different authority roles (such as Project Analyst, Strategy Analyst, Approver, IT Manager) and define different levels of project access (for example read-only, full access). This initial release is considered Beta functionality to allow wider testing, before full release.

Defect Remediation

Several user reported and internally discovered defects have been fixed, including:
  • Swap set report (fixed in DO 8.3.1)
  • Tree Aware Optimization omits some leaf node consistency pairs when optimizing a base tree (fixed in DO 8.3.2)

Documentation

Improvements have been made in sections of the Analyst User Guide covering:
  • Improved guidance on how to set rank consistencies for Tree Aware Optimization
  • Added clarification for the “Account Constraints” table in Summary report
  • Added clarification on the delta metric

Added in Decision Optimizer 8.3

This release will require users to update to Xpress 8.11 and Xpress Insight 4.55.

Consequently, this mean that DO8.3 will also now support Tableau for FICO 2020.3, with the minimum version of 2018.2.

Decision Table Editor

To improve the user experience in developing and editing Decision Tables within Decision Optimizer, we've introduced a new charting view, which allows the user to graph and manipulate the data.
  • There are now three view formats available in the Decision Table Editor. These are combined Table and Chart view, Table only view, and Chart only view.
  • When using the Chart view, the user has control over which numeric columns to graph on the y and x axes. Further, the user can select various segments and sub-segments to see (if the data contains range of values).
  • This release also offers the ability to directly manipulate the data on the Chart by moving points and/or lines, and this will update the corresponding data in the Table.
  • Additionally, the user can change values in the Table and the corresponding point on the Chart will update.

Decision Tree Editor

To improve the user experience in developing and editing Decision Trees within Decision Optimizer, this release includes the following enhancements:
  • Export and import PMML files
  • Ability to split using multiple target variables
  • Allows switching between a Leveled and Unleveled layout, this does not alter the tree behavior.
  • Ability to undo/redo changes

Enhanced support of Special Values

Special values, like missing values, will be ignored during metric calculations, but will be present in the account level output file.

Reports Enhancements

A number of report improvements have been implemented:
  • Summary metrics - ability to display the differences (delta, % delta) between various scenarios.
  • Swap Set reports - ability to see the calculated metrics for both scenarios and the difference.

New Scenario Manager

With the upgrade to Xpress Insight 4.54+, Decision Optimizer can benefit from the new Scenario Manager (which replaces the Scenario Explorer).

The Scenario Manager is used to select which scenarios are available on the shelf of an Insight app. Data loading and scenario execution are performed from the

application. The Scenario Manager enables users to perform certain operations on multiple scenarios simultaneously.

Defect Remediation

Several user reported and internally discovered defects have been fixed within the release. This included fixing issues in areas such as:
  • Some unconstrained optimization scenarios were incorrectly applying constraints
  • Wildcard in decision table range could cause crash
  • Action values may lead to duplicate treatments
  • Confirm denominators in summary calc constraints with limit=0

A full list of defects fixed can be made available if required.
