Deploying FICO® Xpress Insight on Public Cloud Infrastructure

The on-premises version of Xpress Insight can be deployed on a public cloud such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
If you deploy the on-premises software on a public cloud, keep in mind the following guidelines and restrictions:
  • FICO provides support only for the on-premises product software. The following elements of the cloud environment are not covered by FICO support:
    • Third-party cloud infrastructure and services
    • Configuration of cloud resources such as virtual servers, file shares, and network routing
    • Overall security of the cloud environment
  • Access to Xpress Insight must be secured by appropriate virtual network services such as Amazon VPC or Azure VNet. Do not directly expose Xpress Insight to the public Internet.
  • SSO/SAML2 integration must be enabled for authentication and authorization. Disable local account authentication.
  • Follow the security guidance in the Securing Xpress Insight chapter of the Xpress Insight Administrator Guide.
  • Integration with public cloud database services is not supported. A MySQL database is required. For more information, see Integrating with MySQL in the Administrator Guide.
  • You are responsible for database backups.
  • Active-Active disaster recovery is not supported. Use one of the following options for disaster recovery:
    • Snapshot the fully configured state of the primary, deploy on failover, and restore from database backup.
    • Deploy a secondary (cold standby) to start up on failover, and restore from database backup.
In either case, consider how connections between failed-over elements of the solution might be affected (for example, by changes to the IP addresses of servers and workers). Each cloud vendor provides solutions for these issues, such as elastic IPs.

For more information about Tableau disaster recovery, see https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/enterprise-it/stability.

Test your failover and failback process regularly.

  • The Xpress Insight server log can be monitored for failure events. For more information on the codes to filter for, please contact FICO Support.
  • The following features of the FICO Platform version of Xpress Insight are not supported by the on-premises version:
    • Elastic scaling of server or workers
    • Application performance monitoring integration
    • Solution database
    • S3 service integration
    • PCI-DSS compliance
Note: Elastic scaling of workers is not supported by the standalone on-premises version, but is available when deploying Xpress Insight in a Kubernetes cluster using a Helm chart. For more information, see the Container Deployment Guide.
