Licensing Xpress for Use in Workbench

By default, the Workbench container will start with the Xpress Community License. You can use a custom license or the same one that runs on your host workstation. Changing your license may be of particular value to those migrating from Workbench Desktop Edition to the Docker container version.
You will need a server Xpress license running on your host. If you only have static, “node-locked” license, Contact FICO Support about exchanging the license or acquiring a new floating license.
  1. Configure the floating license following the Xpress Installation Guide. (Note: If you wish to keep a static license for local Xpress work and a separate floating license just to use the Workbench container, you may need two Xpress installations. The installation guide has details on this configuration.)
  2. In the xpress-license folder, rename xpauth.xpr.unused to xpauth.xpr. This is simple client license that looks for a server on “host.docker.internal”, the host OS running the license server. You may have to edit this file to supply a custom port if your license server is not using the default.
When you start the container, the container will copy this license file and start using it for Xpress. To validate this behavior, use system("xplicstat") in Mosel code, or os.system("xplicstat") in Python code. The output will print out the Xpress license capabilities.
