 cleandirs("-f","newdir/subdir")                  ! -f: forced deletion
   ! -> RMDIR newdir/subdir
Further information
1. The first argument of the routine is interpreted as a list of flags if it starts with a '-'.
2. Deletion will occur only if runmode is "clean" or if the flag "-f" is used.
3. The directory name may contain a pattern ( e.g. "mydir*"): all directories corresponding to this patern will be deleted.
4. Both content and directory are removed.
5. Execution of the program terminates if the deletion fails and exitonfail is true unless flag "-i" is used.
