Backing up and Recovering the Repository

The Xpress Insight repository is a PostgreSQL database.

It is recommended that you back up the repository on several occasions - for example, when upgrading your system. The relevant documentation alerts you when this is necessary.

You can back up (or export) and recover (or import) the Xpress Insight repository in two ways:
  • With the insightcmd command line tool (preferred) introduced with Xpress Insight version 4.9.
  • With supported standard database administration tools available to all PostgreSQL installations.

There is no need to back up the mirror database used by Tableau for FICO to integrate with Xpress Insight.

The Xpress Insight Master Key File

It is also important to ensure that you have a secure copy of the Xpress Insight master key file .xpress-insight-key.

The key in this file is used to encrypt and decrypt Tableau and mirror database passwords. It will only be present if you have configured the server with passwords for Tableau or the mirror. If this key is lost then any configured passwords will be unreadable and you need to reconfigure the server.
