Initializing help system before first use

Installing FICO® Xpress Insight 5 Community Edition

FICO® Xpress Insight 5 Community Editionis a 64-bit application and must be installed on a 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® system. For information on supported platforms, see the FICO® Xpress Insight 5 Installation Guide.

The Community Edition of Xpress Insight has a different installer, and there are several limitations:
  • The Community Edition cannot be installed on a machine with a full edition. You must remove the full edition before installing the Community Edition.
  • The installation is good for one year from the date of the build. Once it is expired, you cannot log in.
  • You cannot create or delete users using the user interface or REST API.
  • You cannot create, edit, or delete workers.
  • Only local users can use Xpress Insight Community Edition; that is, there is no SAML integration.
These are the prerequisites for installation:
  • Java 17 installed. Xpress Insight Community Edition supports any OpenJDK; however, FICO recommends Amazon Corretto.
  • Xpress installed.
  • Binary and example files from Xpress Insight 5 developer kit (IDK).
Verify that you have Java 17 installed and then install Xpress Insight 5 Community Edition.
  1. Open a Command Prompt.
  2. Type the following command: java -version
A correct version of Java should match the highlighted portions of the following example output (the version should be 17.0.9 or later):
    openjdk version "17.0.9" 2023-10-17 LTS
OpenJDK Runtime Environment Corretto-17.0.9.8.1 (build 17.0.9+8-LTS)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Corretto-17.0.9.8.1 (build 17.0.9+8-LTS, mixed mode, sharing)
  3. Close the Command Prompt.
  4. Obtain the Xpress Insight 5 Community Edition software installer from community.fico.com/optimization.
  5. Run the setup file.
If you are a Symantec user, click Allow this file to proceed.
  6. Select the default installation directory, which is C:\Program Files\FICO\Xpress Insight.
  7. Select all components on the Custom Setup page.
Without further configuration, Xpress Insight will use a local storage file to manage your application.

For Python and R developers, all components must be installed to the system environment, not for the user account only.

  8. Continue to configure and verify the installation using the same steps as installing Xpress Insight 5. Go to Configuring Worker Properties File (Optional) to continue.
