FICO® Score Credit Insights, Spring 2026 Edition
A comprehensive report analyzing credit trends for the U.S. economy, offering actionable insights for lenders, investors, and policymakers.

By featuring a recent consumer poll, the FICO Score® Credit Insights report anchors data to real-world experiences, bridging statistical trends and consumer behavior to empower smarter financial decisions.
The report combines nationally representative credit-file analysis with consumer survey research to connect statistical credit trends with consumers’ reported experiences.
The data is based on a nationally representative sample of millions of consumer credit files spanning multiple time periods from one of the national consumer reporting agencies.
FICO® Score 8 is the score version used in all analysis for this report unless indicated otherwise, except mortgage, which uses Classic FICO® Score, and auto, which uses FICO® Auto Score 8. All of the data in this report focuses on consumers who have a valid FICO® Score. 18–29 year olds were chosen to define Gen Z, since consumers can't have a credit report until age 18, and keeping age bands consistent across time periods allows for an apples-to-apples comparison. Thin file is defined as a consumer with fewer than three tradelines on their credit file, and new-to-credit is a consumer who has had tradelines reporting for less than 36 months.
The Harris Poll conducted the survey online within the United States on behalf of FICO from July 20–22, 2026, among 2,078 U.S. adults ages 18 and older. The sample data is accurate to within ±2.7 percentage points using a 95% confidence level; the interval is wider for subgroups.
